The UC Davis Center for the Study of Regional Change invites
you to join us for our first annual conference
“Regionalism in California: The Road So Far, and Further”
on May 5 & 6 at the UC Davis Alumni Center.
The conference will convene community, university, and government leaders to
- Assess regional approaches to problem-solving and policy change
- Deepen insight into the theory and practice of regionalism
- Strategize on how to achieve the goals of sustainability, equity, health, and vitality in California communities
To stimulate the conference discussions, we are commissioning papers and presentations that
take stock of existing regional-scale efforts and policy dynamics in the areas of smart growth,
environment, human development, health, and economics. Panel discussions will focus on:
- Integration across sectors
- Governance and accountability
- Equity in participation and distribution
We will have several participatory sessions designed to facilitate dialogue and strategize on
new directions for regionalism. Your insights and ideas will help determine research and
project priorities for regional community-university partnerships.
The two-day, invitation only event will begin with lunch on Monday, May 5 and conclude
after a closing keynote and dinner on Tuesday, May 6.
Through a special partnership with the Great Valley Center, attendees will have the opportu-
nity to register at special rates for the annual GVC conference in Sacramento, to be held May
7-8. (Co-op extension advisors and specialists need to register and pay the appropriate fees,
but will be reimbursed.) In exchange, we will be hosting several panel sessions on regionalism
at the GVC conference and are helping to support the appearance of Neil Pearce as a lunch
plenary speaker on Wednesday. For a GVC conference schedule, see http://www.greatvalley.
