Presented by the Center for Transportation and the Environment (CTE) at North Carolina State University, in cooperation with the Federal Highway Administration and Federal Transit Administration.

Earlier this year the U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT), U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD), and the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) announced a new interagency partnership to help families gain better access to affordable housing, more transportation options, and lower transportation costs. The unprecedented agreement established six “livability principles” that will coordinate policy for federal transportation, environmental protection, and housing investments. This webcast will provide an overview of the DOT-HUD-EPA Partnership for Sustainable Communities and highlight its current efforts.

Panelists for the webcast will be:

  • Derek Douglas, Special Assistant to the President for Urban Affairs

  • Beth Osborne, Deputy Assistant Secretary for Transportation Policy, U.S. DOT

  • Shelley Poticha, Senior Advisor for Sustainable Housing and Communities, U.S. HUD

  • John Frece, Smart Growth Program Director, U.S. EPA

The webcast is aimed principally at management and planning staff of State DOTs, Metropolitan Planning Organizations, and transit agencies. The program also will be of interest to environmental agencies, non-governmental organizations, universities, and private-sector organizations.

During the live webcast, participants may submit questions via email for panelists to discuss following their presentations. Prior to the webcast date, participants also may submit questions via the CTE Broadcast Discussion Forum – use password 'ctetc44' to access the Pre-Broadcast forum and post a new topic with your question.

The program will be webcast in Windows Media Video format and archived for later viewing. A broadband Internet connection is recommended for best viewing. Additional program information, including the agenda and panelist profiles, will be available soon on the CTE website. More information about the DOT-HUD-EPA Partnership for Sustainable Communities is available from the EPA website.
