California Civic Engagement Project (CCEP)

by tgreen last modified April 11, 2013 05:42 PM

The California Civic Engagement Project is a new nonpartisan data repository and research initiative for the state of California. The CCEP seeks to address the limited quality and quantity of publicly available civic engagement data. Its mission is to collect and analyze civic engagement data from a broad range of sources, making them a publicly available resource to all interested audiences, including political researchers, public officials, advocacy groups and communities themselves. Latino Registered Turnout by County

A key focus of data analysis will be identifying disparities in participation across place and population. One unique contribution of the CCEP is its analysis of California election data as presented by race/ethnicity (i.e. Latino and Asian populations) and age. The project aims to support research that explores non-traditional measures of civic engagement, particularly those that may be more likely experienced by disadvantaged or disconnected groups. The CCEP invites inquiries and feedback on these data from all interested audiences. Click here to share your thoughts.

New! BOOM: A Journal of California just published an article by the CCEP's Mindy Romero, UC Davis, and Jonathan Fox, UC Santa Cruz, examining regional voter registration rates across California. Findings show that while registration rates are the highest they have been since 1996, they are disproportionate across California's landscape, reflecting the underrepresentation of lower income communities.
