California Coalition for Rural Housing

by Alida Cantor last modified November 23, 2008 02:02 PM

In partnership with the California Coalition for Rural Housing, we are conducting a spatial analysis of the distribution of shelter and housing poverty in selected communities throughout the 8-county San Joaquin Valley, with a focus on Fresno County.

We seek to collect and assess critical visual evidence of the extensive pattern of spatially concentrated housing poverty.

In order to provide insight into the San Joaquin Valley housing conditions and identify areas of extreme poverty, we are assembling and mapping a comprehensive data set of housing indicators.    We are using data from the U.S. Census, and are mapping down to the census tract and, if possible, census block levels.  We are also collecting additional data, such as home loan foreclosures and code enforcement actions, that may help  to reinforce census data and provide evidence of disinvestment and economic distress.
