Expanding the Circle on Regionalism

The following are efforts to promote positive regional change by organizations and individuals outside of the Center for Regional Change. We include them here as a public service with the understanding that the positions taken do not necessarily reflect those of the Center for Regional Change, its funders, or UC Davis.

  • The California Institute for Rural Studies has partnered with Rick Nahmias Photography on the Fair Food Project, a project to depict the voices and stories of agriculture. See more here.

  • CES4 Health, an online resource for publishing diverse products of community-engaged health scholarship, is now available here.

  • Learn about the most recent developments in energy research through the UC Davis Energy Efficiency Center; see their website here.

  • The Center for Cities and Schools is trying to promote high-quality education in urban environments. To learn more, see their website.

  • The City of West Sacramento is seeking input for their General Plan Update. To fill out and submit a public input worksheet, visit this website.

  • Check out Map4Change, an interactive website that allows for people to contribute and read compelling stories of communities through maps, blogs, and other tools.

  • See the Rural-Urban Connections Strategy tours of Sacramento-area agricultural lands and rural communities.

  • The Children of Immigrants Data Tool explores the lives of the 16.4 million children with foreign-born parents living in the United States.

  • The California Council for the Humanities has an exhibit of photographs and writings by California teens called California Stories: How I See It.

  • Check out the Healthy Eating Active Living Convergence Partnership: Working Together to Create Healthy People in Healthy Places at this website.

  • The CEAV Project is engaged in preventing state and regional officials from  selling  off  the 360 acres of  Cal Expo land to developers. Here is a brief summary of the CEAV project and the actual CEAV proposal which was presented to the Cal Expo Board on March 24th.  For more information, email Red Slider at CEAV@ceav.us.

  • Learn more about the campaign for Transportation for America on their website.

  • Get information and updates from the National Complete Streets Coalition's blog.

  • Follow President Obama and the USDA through their Rural Tour, an effort to rebuild and revitalize America.

  • Check out the lastest on environmental justice on the new Multicultural Environmental Leadership Development Initiative (MELDI) website.

  • Moving Slower is a blog dedicated to reporting on federal action surrounding the transportation reauthorization bill (Oberstar) and the climate change bill (Waxman-Markey), written by a UC Davis graduate student.

  • PolicyLink has a new tool on Reclaiming Foreclosed Properties for Community Benefit.

  • The Journal of Agricultural Extension and Rural Development is seeking to bring more focus and insight into the topics of agriculture and rural living.

  • The Maddy Forum offers a weekly half-hour public affairs program focused on issues of relevance to the Central Valley.

  • Youth Service America is an organization the seeks to promote the placement of youth in substantive roles.

  • Use resources from the University of New Hampshire's Carsey Institute, which seeks to build knowledge for families and communities.

  • Safe Ground Sacramento is a local organization seeking to defend the human rights of our homeless population.

  • Get a daily look at the news from the editors of Capitol Weekly and AroundTheCapitol.com at The Roundup.

  • Join the Fresno West Coalition for Economic Development as they try to improve the physical and socioeconomic conditions of the Southwest area of Fresno and its residents.

  • The Streetsblog Capitol Hill, from D.C. Streetsblog, follows issues relevant to Sacramento and California as they unfold at the Federal level.

  • Check out the CRC's blog, outside contributions and comments are always welcome!

  • Underground Undergrads: The Journey for Humane Immigration Reform, operating through UCLA.

  • Get involved with Blog for Change, a project of a social action network called Change.org.

  • The New America Foundation has launched a new website, called "Reform California."

  • PolicyLink, a group whose goal is to link research and action to policy reform.

  • Check out Capital Weekly, the newspaper of California government and politics.
