2020 Bradshaw Scholar
In June 2020, Jose Sanchez will be graduating from the University of California, Davis (UCD)with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Political Science with a Minor in Communications. He is currently a Ted Bradshaw Engaged Student Scholar. As a Ted Bradshaw Scholar, he is interning for Valley Vision as a Research Assistant. His research will be observing housing supplies relative to public policies across Yolo County.Before attending UCD, Jose earned his Associates Degree in Social Sciences from RiversideCity College (RCC). During his time at RCC, Jose worked in the hospitality industry in various positions including management. He also assisted math teachers in the classroom as a teaching assistant at Matthew Gage Middle School.Although Jose’s time at UCD has been brief, he has not only excelled academically but made notable efforts to improve communities across California. In his first year, Jose was appointed toUCD’s Office of Student Advocacy and Representation (OASR) as a legislative assistant. With only a handful of students and a small budget, OASR helped introduce Assembly Bill 1086 to reduce water waste in the agriculture industry. Jose also acted as Assistant Director for the 105th Picnic Day. For months, he worked with a team of students, administrative staff, and local government agencies to provide a safe, inclusive, and successful open house.Filled with a passion for public policy, Jose has interned for Assembly member Jose Medina. His responsibilities included drafting press releases, talking points, creating social media content and researching legislation all while consistently meeting deadlines. From these experiences, Jose gained more in depth knowledge about the duties, roles, and functions of the California StateGovernment. Upon graduation, Jose plans on returning to Sacramento to begin a career in public service.
