Position Title
Assistant Professor

Department of Public Health Sciences

I look at how policy, healthcare, and our social structure are interconnected,  and their impacts on disadvantaged communities. I’ve conducted research on a variety of topics, including the healthcare safety net, Medicaid, long-term care, access to healthcare for minority populations, diversity in medical education, and the healthcare workforce.

Here at UC Davis, I’m affiliated with:

Community Outreach and Engagement Core of the Environmental Health Sciences Center

Center for Poverty Research

Center for Health Policy Research

I have an MD and a PhD in health policy, meaning I’m a student for life.  I find pretty much everything interesting: from history to earth science to the inner workings of my microcosm of society.  As Hope Jahren points out in her  memoir, Lab Girl, the words we write in academic journals cannot possibly capture all that we do to find answers. This site is my home for “official” work, writing, images, and playing with data.
