Bio

Hello, my name is Rikiya Hatano. I am a 4th year international undergraduate student from Japan majoring in International Agricultural Development and also a first-generation student. I am passionate about engaging in creating socially and economically equitable society and communities where diverse people feel comfortable and have access to food, health and jobs. I am in the UC Davis study abroad program which is Community, Technology, and Sustainability in Nepal to work on the projects in Nepal collaborating with local organizations and students. Through fall quarter 2023 at UCD and during winter breaks in Nepal, my team has been and is going to work with the local agricultural Co-op to develop a branding design and strategy based on market research.

I also work at the Student Farm on campus as a Lead Student Farmer. In addition to working on various agricultural and practical operations, our farm team also focuses on creating a farm where all visiting people feel welcome by leading volunteers and interns as well as holding a farm stand event on Mondays and making baskets for CSA (Community Supported Agriculture) members.

As a Bradshaw Scholar, I am going to work on the Health Equity Resources and Outreach (HERO) program focusing on the Community Partner Compensation Process Environmental Scan and Analysis project led by the Clinical and Translational Science Center. I really look forward to being part of this project and dedicating myself to supporting effective participation from diverse individuals in health equity resources.
